In March 2024, Yayasan Inklusif published the Report on the Monitoring of the Situation of Freedom of Religion and Belief in Greater Jakarta, as well as the Report on the Politicization of Religion in the implementation of the Presidential and Legislative Elections that took place on February 14, 2024.
This report presents the results of the Yayasan Inklusif’s monitoring of two issues: First, the circumstances of freedom of religion/belief (Kemerdekaan Beragama Berkeyakinan-hereinafter referred to as KBB) in Jabodetabek in 2023. The KBB report for 2023 reviews incidents of violations that occurred in Jabodetabek, both involving state and non-state actors. Second, presenting findings regarding the practice of politicizing religion in the 2024 elections.
Violations of the KBB in this report refer to acts restricting the KBB that are not permitted or are not under the principles of limitation as justified in the concept of Human Rights (HAM). Meanwhile, the politicization of religion refers to the practice of using religion or religious symbols as a tool to achieve political goals or to mobilize the masses to win certain candidates in elections for public office.
Monitoring of KBB violations was carried out in Jabodetabek during 2023. Meanwhile, monitoring of the politicization of religion was carried out throughout Indonesia during the 2024 General Election stages.
